POLICE COURT. Eric James Cameron, aged 22, appeared before Messrs E. Goodbehere and A. J. Geary, J.P.’s, at the Police Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to three charges of (lj drunkenness in a public place, (2) using insulting language and (3J common assault. Accused asked for loniency on the plea that he had never beforo been in trouble and on this occasion tho trouble had been caused by drink to which ho was not accustomed.

In entering a conviction on each charge, the justices severely admonished accused for his behaviour but, in view of the fact that ho had been in custody sinco Saturday night, no penalty would be imposed. He would not receive any leniency, however, if he camo beforo tho court again. SWIMMING CLUB. A special general meeting or tho local Swimming Club was held last night. On the motion of Messrs L. Bramwell and W. Nicol, Mr S. Burroli was elected president of tho club. Roferenco was made to tho spirited work Mr Burroli had done in various circles in Feilding and his election to the chair was received with acclamation. Mr Burrell suitably thanked the club for the honour conferred upon him and said that he would do everything in his power to further tho interests of the club, both at homo and elsowhero.

It was decided to hold a swimming carnival on tho 15th inst. and a sports committee comprising Messrs Nicols, McCulloch, Bramwell, Sporl and Parsonage was set up to make final arrangements. Tho president and secretary wero authorised to operate on tho bank account. It was decided to ask the band to give an open-fpr programmo outside tho baths on tho night of the carnival. The resignation of Mr T. F. Fitz Gerald from the club was received with regret. The secretary reported that tho club’s credit balance at the bank stood at £l3 19s lOd and it was decided to make a canvass for funds at a later date.
