FOOD CONTROL BOARD.

LONDON, Nov. 30. “Control boards do not work miracles, but they could with advantage be extended to all commodities, except possibly wool,’’ said Sir James Cooper, formerly Director of Raw Materials Finance at the Ministry of Munitions, when interviewed regarding the Australian agitation for wool, wheat, eggs and fresh fruit control boards. The dairy and dried fruits boards, said Sir James, had clearly proved how controlling the quality of Australian exports improved the producers’ and consumers’ position, and largely reduced insurances and freights. If Australia increased the number of control boards it ought to bo possible to create a central marketing committee in London, consisting of experts in each commodity, with an independent chairman, thus enabling the experts to handle their own commodities most efficiently, economising in costs and pooling their experience. Increasing tho number of controls, while without any risk, was an obvious lino of development for Australian exports.
