ELUSIVE RUM-RUNNERS.

UNITED STATES NAVY AFTER FRENCHMAN. AUDACIOUS “ARSENE.” NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 1. The Gulf of Mexico has been the scene of a remarkable rum-running adventure, the French schooner Arsene doing stunts rivalling a moving picture story. The vessel was first seized by the coastguard, whose commander placed two prohibition officials aboard. The Arsene, however, promptly steamed away with Uncle Sam’s agents as prisoners'. A long chase during the night resulted in the recapture of the fugitive, and a bulletin announced that the Arsene was being towed to port. The Fremlimen, however, again turned the tables. They cut the tow line and headed for the open sea in a gale. At noon it was reported that the entire American naval forces in the Gulf were engaged in the chase. The two “dry” officers are still aboard the schooner.
