MELBA AT “OLD VIC.”
TO AID NATIONAL THEATRE. LONDON, Dec. 1. In fulfilment of a promise made in 1914, Dame Nellie Melba will appear at the “Old Vic” on December 7, in two acts of “La Boheme,” and flic death scene from “Othello.” The house is already booked out by the habitues, Melba having stipulated for a real “Old Vic” audience. The proceeds will be devoted to the re-opening of the historic Sadler’s Wells Theatre, in order to provide North London with a national theatre on “Old Vic” lines. A devoted band of theatre-lovers has long produced tjie classics for the masses at popular prices in the famous Waterloo road theatre, which was at one time the Royal Victoria Hall. Many of the leading British actors and nctresses of to-day graduated from the “Old Vic.”
