AMERICAN TRIAL
SECOND EDITION
FURTHER REVELATIONS
Received December 9, 12.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, Dec. 8. The former Secretary to the Navy, Mr Denby, testified at the Fall and Doheny/ trial that he took the responsibility of the Elk Hills lease and the Pearl Harbour contracts because he was advised that the naval oil lands of California were being drained by private well near the rim. Asked by the prosecuting counsel who made the contracts, Mr Denby said: “I did it whether I wanted to or not.” Mr Denby declared that he urged the late President Harding to issue an order transferring the naval and solicited the co-operation of the reserves to the Interior Department secretary, Fall, therein. Mr Denby said that Fall stated he had all he could handle but would bo glad to do what he could.—A. and N.Z. cable.
