AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
EVENING MEETING
The Manawatu Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club conducted its second evening meeting of the season at the iSportsgrouncl yesterday, when there was a fair attendance of the public. Competition, however, was not very keen, many members of the club not yet being in training. .
Five events hgured on the programme, but one —a two miles Agiade cycle handicap—was declared no race, the competitors having taken things rather too easily. Results were as follow :
220 yards senior handicap: L. Cockcry (12yds.) 1, L. R. Harrowiield (22yds.) 2, A. Weston (Byds.) 3. Time, 23 l-ssec. Five starters. Won by five yards, with two between second and third men.
B grade one and a-half mile cycle handfeap: R. York (scr.) 1, 0. W. Prouse (20yds.) 2; J. Edwards (40yds.) 3. Time, 3min. 56 4-ssec. Six starters. Won by 40 yards, with a wheel separating second and third.
100 yards junior handicap: P. Hansen 1, B.' Watts 2, G. Pell 3. Long jump handicap: A. Weston (scr.) 18ft. llins. 1. L. R. Harrowfield (3ft. -6ins.)' 18ft 6ins. 2, L. Cockery (lft. 6ins.) JO'ft. 9ins. 3. These were tho only competitors.
