WOMEN’S NOTES
Miss Naomi Whalley, who was one of the soloists at a production of the Wanganui Choral Society last night, returned to Palmerston North this morning.
Miss Kidd returns shortly to continue work in Palmerston North from Wanganui, where' she has been in charge of a case. Previously, she was nursing in Nelson for some months, and also had charge of a convalescent home there.
To assist the Hokowhitu School picnic funds, a gift afternoon was conclucted at the residence of Mrs H. Whitehead, Albert street, yesterday afternoon by the ladies’ committee. Competitions and treasure hunts were indulged in, and musical items were given by Mrs James and Miss McKenzie. Numerous gifts and donations were received, and the afternoon passed off most pleasurably.
As a mark of the esteem in which she is held by the old pupils of the school, Miss C. B. Mills, retiring principal of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, who is leaving for Nelson shortly, was presented with a handsome writing case at a re-union of the Old Girls’ Association last evening. In making the presentation, Miss C. Vautier, who was the first head prefect of the school, referred to Miss Mills’s early association with the High School when the girls’ and boys’ institutions were combined, and her later appointment as principal of the girls’ schopl. With her the progress of the school had always come first, and as a result of her efficient supervision and foresight, she had built up an institution upon which the old girls could look back with pride, and which had remarkable scholastic records. Miss Mills had also been largely responsible for the various activities of the Old Girls’ Association. While all present were sorry that she was going away, they' wished her success and happiness in her new sphere. Miss Mills feelingly replied, thanking the donors for their gift and kindly wishes. HIGH SCHOOL OLD GIRLS.
