WORK HELD UP.

REASON FOR DELAY,

the Manawatu County Council protested to the Main Highways Board over the delay in connection with the work on the Sandon-Bulls highway, and in this connection the chairman (Cr. Barber) reported to yesterday’s meeting of the council that lie had interviewed the Highways Board and had ascertained that the delay was due to a misunderstanding on the part of the council’s engineer. The specifications for the work had been submitted by the county engineer to the board, which in turn had required certain minor alterations, and the plans had accordingly been returned for these. The county engineer, however, instead of completing the alterations, had forwarded fresh" plansi anil sent these forward. The board had been confused with the receipt of- new plans and the whole of the proposed work had to be reviewed again. This was the cause of the delay. Concluding, Cr. Barber stated that he had mentioned the matter to show that the Highways Board was not to blame, and in order that the engineer would know what-to do in future 'cases.
