TRAFFIC CONTROL.

EFFORTS BY MANAWATU COUNTY In regard to a recent letter sent by the Manawatu County Council to various local bodies in the district offering for a consideration the services of the council’s traffic inspector for the inspection of all heavy traffic vehicles, a number of replies were received at the monthly meeting of the council yesterday. The Kairanga and Horowhenua County Councils and Foxton Borough Council wrote advising that the matter had been held over for further consideration, while the Palmerston North,i Levin, Feilding and Shannon Borough Councils and the Pohangina and Kiwitea County Councils intimated that they did not desire the services of the inspector. The Oroua County Council advised that it was agreeable to the proposol, but that the inspector should operate within its boundaries only on days to be arranged on consultation with the writers’ engineer. The replies were formally received, and, arising out of a suggestion, the’ cliairman (Cr. Barber) was instructed to bring up the question of the administration of the heavy traffic regulations at the next meeting of the District Highways Council.
