LAWN TENNIS.

MANAAVATU ASSOCIATION,

FIRST AIEETING OF COAIAIITTEE

The first meeting of tho management oommitteo of tho Alanawatu Lawn Tennis Association was held last night, there being present: Alessrs H. N. AA’atson, C. T. Salmon, R. V. Hooper, C. C. Hills, C. A. Anderson, F. F. Rafe, I. H. Cornwall, R. H. Billens and J. A. Grant (lion, secretary). Mr Billens was elected to tho chair. Apologies for absence were received from Alessrs A. El Blackbourn and R. McAlurray.

POSITION OF BULLS CLUB. The Council of the New Zealand Association wrote advising that conditional affiliation had been granted in order to enable Alanawatu to challenge for the Christie Cup this year. Full affiliation would be granted bv the annual meeting of the New Zealand Association. Exception, was taken by the writers to the inclusion of Bulls in Alanawatu unless AVanganui agreed. * Alessrs Rafe and Cornwall, tho Bulls delegates, explained that, although they were on the northern side of the Rangitikei river—which was named as the boundary between the AVanganui and AVellington Associations —the tennis interests of Bulls were all with tho clubs in the Alanawatu area. They were only eighteen miles from Palmerston North as against thirty from AVanganui, and it was the unanimous desire of the members of the club to affiliate with Alanawatu. The matter was left in the hands of Messrs AVatson, Billens and- Grant, it being considered that the' AVanganui Association would only bo too willing to allow the chango-over when the full facts wero placed before it.

CHRISTIE CUP COAIPETITION. Christie Cup matters were discussed at length. The trophy wa6 presented for competition between tho AVanganui, Taranaki, Alanawatu, AA’airarapa and Hawke’s Bay Associations, and the rules provide for teams of six men and six ladies. It was decided to challenge the first holders, AVanganui, to a match for the cup on January 29, and, with a view to enabling the local team to be selected, it was decided that the fol-

lowing matches be arranged for as soon as possible : Bulls v. Palmerston North, Foxton v. Levin, Terrace End v. Feilding, Shannon v. Longburn. Other matches will ho arranged as soon as possible. Alessrs H. N. AA’atson, A. AV. Thompson and 11. 11. Billens wero appointed selectors for the team on the motion of Dr Hooper, and wore instructed to arrange the association’s ladders.
