“MATERNITY HOME”

GRANT OF £7OO. MR NASH' THANKED FOR HIS EFFORTS. Advice was received at this afternoon’s meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board from the Department of Health that approval had been given for the payment of the grant of £7OO towards the cost of the erection of a materniay hospital at Palmerston North.

The report of the managing secretary contained a suggestion that the building be known as “The Maternity Home,” rather than as “The Maternity Hospital,” and the word “Home' was adopted as part of the official name. Certain alterations in the plans were suggested; also that the opinions of the medical staff on the matter be secured. Members, he thought, should view the proposed building site, which seemed eminently suitable for drainage and other purposes. “We should thank Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., for his activities in this matter, for it is entirely due to him that v.-e have the grant,” observed the chairman (Sir James Wilson), who proceeded to move a vote of thanks to Mr Nash, which was carried with acclamation.

“I should like to see the place filled soon,” observed Mr Nash, in reply. The suggestions of the managing secretary were approved by the board.
