LAMBS FOR EXPORT.
EIGHTPENCE PER POUND OFFERED.
BAD WEATHER DELAYS FATTENING. Exporters who have now begun the season’s buying of fat lambs for the London market are offering locally 8d per lb for grades under 36. This is lid to l|d per lb less than was offered a year ago.
“Unsuitable weather has delayed fattening,” stated a prominent exporter to a “Standard” representative this morning, “and most of the first drafts are smaller than usual. In the Hawke’s Bay the lambs are coming forward in excellent condition and with better average weights than last year.
“Round about this district the position in regard to quality and weight is about the same as last year.” In Auckland 7Jd per lb overall on the hooks is the basis on which offers are being made, this being about a penny less than was offered a year ago.
