FOOTWEAR COMMITTEE.
Per Press Association. . WELLINGTON, Sept. 9. Mr J. W. Collins, chairman of the Government Footwear Committee, stated that the first section of the report dealing with the production side of the industry was completed, and the second stage of the work, covering problems of distribution, will now be undertaken. After the approval of the first report by the Minister, it will probably be made available; first to boot manufacturers and operatives, and then to the Press. Mr Collins said that he had been asked by all members of the committee to draw attention again to a statement which appeared in the Press to the effect that a saving of 12$ per cent, on the cost of production could be obtained by better methods in manufacturing. This statement did not emanate from any member of the committee, nor in any report submitted to it for consideration.
