PURDY SUSTAINS BROKEN RIB. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 9. The professional welterweight boxing contest between Artie Hav (Hastings), New Zealand champion, lOst 101 b., and Charlie Purdy (Auckland), iOst 3Jlb., concluded at the end of the fifth round, Purdy being unable to continue owing to having sustained a broken rib. The Town Hall was crowded for the bout, and the spectators were very disappointed at the sudden termination of tho fight. Hay did practically all the attacking, and was well ahead on points. In fact, it looked as though he might win by a knock-out. Hay has challenged Jim Ilroadfoot for the liglrt-heavyweight title.
