HIGHWAYS BOARD.

OTAGO RESOLUTION. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Sept. 9. At a largely-attended meeting of representatives of local bodies u.J others interested to-day, presided oyer by Mr Black (Mayor) the following resolution was carried: “That this meeting of representatives of counties and otber local bodies, the Motor Association, the Chamber of Commerce and residents of Dunedin and Otago strongly protests against the decision of the Government to withhold the sums of £200,000 arid £35,000 as free grants from the Public Works and Consolidated Funds respectively to the Main Highways Board as provided by the Main Highways Act; and further oonsiders that, notwithstanding any legal opinion the Government may have obtained, such opinion does not justify the present action, and the present Government is morally bound to honour the obligation which the late Government entered into with the counties and the motor associations.”
