FEDERAL CAPITAL.

CANBERRA, Sept. 8. Mr Bruce announced to-day that Sir John Butters, Chief Commissioner or the Federal Capital Territory, was not prepared to continue in office after November 2. The Government intended to continue the commission for one year, appointing Mr A. J. Christie, of the Postmaster-General’s Department, Chief Commissioner, and Mr J. S. Murdoch, Director-General of Works and chief architect, Second Commissioner.
