RONGOTEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Sept. 9. On Thursday afternoon, sth inst., the annual meeting of the Rongotea branch of tho British and Foreign Bible Society was held in the Masonic Hall, the following being present:—Mesdames G. H. Davison, H. V. Caverhill, F. Wright, J. C. Glover, J. Glover, senr., W. Kelly and L. H. Yarrall. Rev. Wm. Kelly occupied the chair. Mrs Florence Porter, organising secretary for the Dominion, attended and gave a very interesting address on the work of the society. In opening the meeting, the chairman, in a few words, thanked the members tor their presence, and on behalf of tho society appealed for collectors who, he stated, were always exceedingly difficult to obtain. Those who offered their services in this capacity were Mesdames J. C. Glover, L. H. Yarrall, G. H. Davison, T. Wright and Misses Davison and M. Hunt. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Rev. W. Kelly; vice-presidents, Mesdames Glover, Kelly, Wright and Davison (reelected); secretary and treasurer, Miss A. Hunt; secretary for magazine, Miss Sadie Hunt. At the close of the meeting a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the chair, after which afternoon tea was served. PERSONAL. Mr W. Royska, who has been spending his annual vacation in Nelson, has resumed duties at tho local Post Office. The friends of Mr J. Hancox and Mr W. Hirst will be pleased to learn that they have returned home after having been inmates of the Palmerston North Hospital. Miss F. Rose, who has been spending the school vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs E. J. Rose, has returned to Te Hono.
Mr and Mrs G. Hunt and Mrs J. Gould, who have been motoring in tho Auckland district, have returned to Rongotea. Mr R. T. Major is spending a holiday in Wellington. The news of the dreadful tragedy which resulted in the deaths of Mr and Mrs T. Wright and family cast a gloom over this district. During their residence in Ro'ngotea Mr Wright was a member of the local school committee and was always willing to render assistance when required. Both Mr and Mrs Wright were held in the highest respect, and deep sympathy is extended to the relatives of all who lost their lives in the . frightful disaster. ■
