POLITICAL INCIDENT
EX-KAISER’S CHARACTER
LATE KING’S ASSERTION. FRENCH STORY RECALLED. (United Press Association.; —By Electric Tel egrapli.—Copy right.) (Australian Press Association.) Received September 11, 9.10 a.m. PARIS, Sept. 10. In reviewing Lord Lansdowne’s memoirs, the Matin recalls the occasion when King Edward called the ex-Kaiser a spitfire. The reviewer refers to a letter in Lord Lansdowne’s book, in which he declares: “As far as I remember King Edward never made a single important suggestion concerning big political questions. The Matin then cites a story of the time of the diplomatic tension over affairs connected with Tangier, as told by the French statesman, M. Decasse. In 1905 King Edward, while travelling in France, met President Loubet. King Edward remarked: “Don’t be over-anxious. My spitfire nephew is, above all, a coward. Moreover, you are in there. Hold your ground.” . , The Matin adds that King Edward thus outlined in twenty words a complete policy of great importance.
