CHEAP CAR RIDES.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 11. The rate at which certain cabs will take passengers is now Is 3d a mile for five persons. This low rate is the latest development in the taxi war which is at present being waged in the city. The manager of the company stated to-day that his company had tried to work under the award, and was still sticking to it, but it was determined to carry on its business and would do so by cutting the fares to 3d below what was charged by anyone else. “What will the outcome be?” he was asked.
“The Bankruptcy Court,” he said, “or an alteration of the award.” Mr Hayward said that the meters on the cabs would he retained, but a discount would be given on runs to bring the far® down to Is 3d a mile for five persons.
