The Senate to-day formally ordered an investigation of the activities of American ship building corporations at the Geneva Naval Conference in 1927. Another statement was made to-day by the President, to the effect that “disclosures of interference with the efforts of the Government in negotiations for an international agreement for the" reduction of naval armaments were already so evident as to require these matters to be gone into the very bottom.” Senator Borah stated before the Naval Affairs committee of the Senate to-day: “Here are private shipbuilding companies employing a man—William Shearer —secretly to break down the conference for naval disarmament. It is nothing less tlfan scandalous and amounts to a conspiracy against the people of the United States and the Government.” MR MacDONALD’S MISSION. (Australian Press Association.) Received September 12, 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 11. It is now disclosed that'Mr Ramsay MacDonald has reserved berths for himself and Miss Ishbel MacDonald on the Berengaria, which will sail for America oil September 28. The Prime Minister’s secretary explains that this precautionary measure was taken weeks ago.
