SURGICAL WORK.

ELECTRIC KNIFE. USED AT CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 14. “We have been using it continuously for two years,” said Dr Fenwick, radiologist to the Hospital Board, when questioned about the electric knife, a description of which was cabled from Fremantle yesterday. The apparatus was invented by Dr Wyeth, of the Vanderbilt clinic, U.S.A., whose personal recommendation determined Dr Fenwick to adopt it. This was made possible through the generosity of Mrs Hobday, of Bealey Avenue. The Christchurch Hospital thus was the first in New Zealand, and one of the first in the world, to use the electric knife. Its peculiarly valuable features are that when an incision is made not a drop of blood is lost. “There is very little shock and the facial features can be altered without leaving a trace of the knife,” added Dr Fenwick.
