TELEPHONE RATES.
NO REDUCTION AT PRESENT.
Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 16. The high standard attained in New Zealand in connection with the telephone system was mentioned at the telephone “cutover” function on Saturday night. A plea was also made for reduced rates, but the PostmasterGeneral announced that, before a reduction in the rates came, he hoped to be able to give increases in salary to the staff. “Our telephone and postal services are conducted at lower rates than in almost any other country in the world,” he said.
