BURNS’ AVENUE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Will you kindly allow me a small space of your valuable columns to draw the attention of the Palmerston North Borough Council to the disgraceful state of the road and footpaths in Burns’ Avenue. As one of the first three residents of the Cuba Street Extension, and having lived in Burns’ Avenue for over three years, I can safely say that the Cuba Street Extension has been one of the most progressive parts of the borough of Palmerston North, yet the council has seen fit to completely ignore it and has done nothing in the way of repairs to the road, except by dumping a few loads of river bed metal, making things worse than before. 1 might remind the council of the petitions signed by us, but which seem as if it has been a waste of time writing them, as the only time we are remembered is when the rates are due.
It has been a case of “pay-up and shut up,” and ask for nothing, till the position has become intolerable, and I think that I express the sentiments of the residents of not only Burns’ Avenue but of Cuba Street Extension as well. Hoping, sir, that these few remarks will wake the council up from their long sleep and give us a square deal.—l am, etc., P. ELSMORE. Burns’ Avenue, Palmerston North, September 17, 1929.
