RONGOTEA

TOWN BOARD MEETING. (Fnom Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Sept. 17. The monthly meeting of the Rongotoa Town Board was held on Monday, 16th inst., when the following were in attendance. Messrs L. H. Yarrall (chairman), Tlios. Fraeer, S. G. Teaz, K. A. Trinkner and E. J. Arnott. Constable M. F. Blaxland awaited on the bourd to complain of the system of parking cars at the saleyards, and suggested that a by-law be passed, whereby the owners of the cars be compelled to park them in uniform order. The matter was held over, pending arrangements by the secretary of the board. The proposal, by Commissioner Fraser, of a pound being constituted in Rongotea was abandoned when it was explained by the secretary how a former pound, which was under the direction of the board, proved such an expensive undertaking, and only resulted in a heavy loss. Accounts amounting to £34 2s 7d were passed for payment. COMING OF AGE PARTY. On Wednesday evening a surprise party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Corbett to celebrate the “coming of age of Mrs Gorbett’s sister Miss Tess Lanigan, of Auckland. Cards were indulged in by the men, while competitions ami games kept the young folk amused. Mr Donald Rowe proposed the toast of the guest of the evening while Mr Claudo Lowe suitably responded. Amusing items were rendered by Messrs K. Pearce and D. Rowe. The following wore present:—Mrs J. Corbett, black satin; Miss Tess Lanigan, pale green georgette; Miss Bel Thompson (Auckland), black lace; Mrs G. Lowe, navy blue crepe-de-chine; Mrs H. Thompson, navy satin; Mrs C. Rowe, fawn frock, floral front; Mrs K. Vile, green crepe-do-chine; Mrs Baxter, pink georgette; Mrs A. Kilpatrick, beaded georgette; Miss S. Costall, grey frock; Miss G. Lowe, wool crepo-de-chine; Miss N. Costall, white frock relieved with blue; Miss T. Fox, green rayon. The singing of “Auld Lang Snye” brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
