NEARLY A CENTENARIAN.
DANISH LADY’S DEATH.

AUCKLAND, Sept. 17
Just short of becoming a centenarian was Mrs Serina Nata Neilsen, whose death has occurred at Hairini.
Mrs Neilsen, who was 99 years and nine months of age, was born in Denmark and came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Rix Star 50 years ago. She and her husband lived at Stony Creek (now Whakarongo), Palmerston North, for some years and afterwards removed to Dannevirke, where her husband was engaged in farming. Mr Neilsen died 14 years ago, and ten years ago Mrs Neilsen came to live with her grandson, Mr N. A. Jacobsen, at Hairini. She retained all her faculties until shortly before she died. Mrs Neilsen is survived by one daughter, Mrs Charles Jacobsen, of Hairini, several grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.
