THE RHINELAND.
TROOPS’ CORDIAL FAREWELL. IMPROVED ATTITUDE IN GERMANY. (Times Cables.) LONDON, Sept. 17. The Times’s correspondent states: “Newspaper comment in Berlin on the inauguration of the 'British evacuation strikingly testifies to the improvement in the attitude of the Press toward Britain. All the papers prominently publish General Sir William Thwaites’s message commending the good behaviour of the troops. Even more remarkable are pictures showing the troops taking cordial and often affectionate farewell of German neighbours. “It is a great achievement to leave behind so little rancour.”
