PRICE DECLINE
LONDON WOOL SALES OPEN. COMPETITION SLACK. CONSIDERABLE WITHDRAWALS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ). (Australian Press Association). Received September 18, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 17. The wool sales opened to-day. 'The prices were from five to ten per cent, below those ruling in July. There were 12,545 bales offered, of which 2283 were from New Zealand, it was a miscellaneous selection, comprised largely of second-hand lots. There was a large attendance, all centres being represented, but the buyers’ tone was somewhat pessimistic. Competition was somewhat slack, and there were considerable withdrawals.
Compared with the closing rates on July 23, Merinos were generally ten per cent, lower; crossbreds, for which competition was bettor, were from par to five per cent, lower; slipes were 71 per cent, lower, and other sorts five per cent, lower. New Zealand realisations: Hastings, half bred 191 d, threo-quarterbred 18d.
