At a meeting of the Otago Rugby Union the secretary reported that he had received a circular from the New Zealand Rugby Union on Friday asking for nominations for the South Island team and stating that these must be in the hands of the union by 5 p.m. to-morrow. Air McDonald, one of the New Zealand selectors, said that this was the first he had heard of nominations being invited. Alembers took exception to the shortness of notice, one remarking that there was something wrong. “These teams are to be the foundation of the New Zealand team next year, and it is not fair treatment to football in the south if we accept this without pointing out that sufficient notice has not been given,” said another member. “We are not doing our dutv as legislators.” The motion was protesting against the action of the New Zealand Union in not giving sufficient notice.
