DUTY ON BACON.

AUSTRALIAN INQUIRY. SYDNEY, Sept. 17. The Tariff Board’s inquiry into the application for an increased duty on bacon, ham and pork was continued to-day. Mr W. R. Blow, the New Zealand Government agent, produced a document relating to the reciprocity agreement between Australia and New Zealand. Mr A. Watson, a director of the New South Wales Marketing Board, stated that practically the whole of the hams and bacon coming into Australia were exported from New Zealand, the f.o.b. price being from Is 3d to Is 3jd per pound. The landed costs into store here with duty brought the price to about Is Bd. Mr Watson added that the prices thus charged for New Zealand ham and bacon conformed substantially to the prices charged for Australian products. The inquiry was adjourned. The next session will be held at Melbourne.
