DOWN THE LINE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Sept. 16. 3lr J. Thurston, of H.-U.S. Dunedin, who has been staying the week-end with his uncle and aunt, 3lr and 31rs Dave Taylor, left this morning to join his ship. 3ir George Gordon and 31r Peter Mahima, of Otaki, inmates of the Palmerston North Hospital, expect to be home this weely 3lr and 3lrs Beauchamp, 31iss Ponlington and Mr B. Beauchamp, of Wellington, were week-end guests of Airs P. W. Penlington, of Otaki. Mr and Mrs Bailey, of Wanganui, well-known elocutionists, are at present the guests of 3lr and 3lrs G. H. Hanson. 3lr Joe Ayre is at present in the Palmerston North Hospital, suffering from a broken nose, due to being knocked over by a ear. Mr F. Cress, who has been in the Palmerston North Hospital for several months, is reported to be progressing. 3!rs Bennett, of Miramar, who lias been the guest of 3lrs A. Freeman, returned home on Saturday. 3liss Hoggins, who broke her leg some weeks ago, to-day resumed teaching at the Otaki State School. 3lrs Batchelar, who has been on a holiday visit to Otaki, returned to Wellington to-day. 3lrs Satherley is at present confined to her bed through an attack of bronchitis, Mrs 31itchell, of Eastbourne, is at present the guest of 3!rs P. Whyte.

Mr W. H. Reynolds, a local grower, was among the exhibitors at the Wanganui Show on Alonday and annexed the 30guinea challenge cup for 24 varieties of bulbs. The collection was certainly a very fine one, while the tnophy is a handsome one. Mr Reynolds also secured first and second for seedlings and gained the championship in the leedsii class. Out of three entries he secured two firsts and a second, despite the fact that there were many beautiful blooms.

It has been decided to open the bowling season in Otaki on the 28th inst. As a result of the recent bowlers’ ball the sum of £32 12s 6d was cleared.
