CRAZE FOR SPEED.
WHY IT IS WORTH WHILE. Replying to the question as to whether the risks in achieving higher velocities are worth while, the London Times, in. a leading article, says: “The simple and sufficient answer is that a man or a nation that is always asking whether a thing is worth while never progresses. it this had been done in the case of flying we would still be flying at 45 miles an hour, whicji was the speed of the first Schneider Trophy ’planes, or rather we would not be flying at all. Aircraft designers and pilots all improve by putting up a standard not previously reached? The restriction of energies would kill the spirit of adventure, making the world vastly poorer and its inhabitants a chicken-hearted breed, without motive.”
