THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST.
The westerly type of weather still persists over the Australian and New Zealand area. A depression has errissed New Zealand, and will be followed by a temporary rise in barometers. Strong west to south-west winds, reaching gale force at times about Foveaux Strait; no indication of prolonged southerlies on the East Coast. Seas rough on the West Coast and off-shore south of Castlepoint; moderate north of Castlepoint. Moderate to strong south-west to west winds in the Eastern Tasman Sea; seas rather rough in the southern portion; elsewhere moderate. Weather changeable with much mist or haze; ehowery at times over most of the South Island and in the Taranaki and Wellington Provinces; elsewhere mainly fair, but with scattered showers in western districts; cooler temperatures.
DISTRICT REPORT. SQUALLY ANITcHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for westerly winds, moderate to strong, and backing by west to south. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather, but at times tho conditions will prove equally and changeable, with scattered ihowers. Tlie barometer is unsteady, but it has a falling tendency.
