AGRICULTURE IN SCHOOLS.

GOOD PROGRESS MADE. INSPECTION VISIT DELAYED. Owing to extra time being taken up, especially in the Wanganui and Feilding areas, with the Boys’ and Girls’ Club competition, the second visit of the agricultural instructors to the schools has been delayed, so that some schools will receive two visits in lieu of three.

“In spite of tho delay the work is progressing very well,” stated the report of the chief agricultural instructor, Air J. Braydon Hogg, for the month of August, received at the meeting of the Wanganui Education Board yesterday. “All schools are very forward with their indoor work and preparations are well in hand for the coming planting season. An early season can be expected, and all have been urged to have their plots sown in good time to enable the crops to be well ahead by the time of the December vacation. Mr Lange in his area has inaugurated an extensive research into the growing of maize. The crop will be studied in its many phases, and it is hoped that much .valuable information will be tho result of the work. “District high school work is being closely supervised,” states the report, “though, in my opinion, with the schools so well equipped with apparatus, not sufficient practical work is done by the individual pupils. I would suggest that the inspectors be requested to look into this phase of tho district high school science work with a view to improvement. “On August 21, a meeting of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs’ executive mas held, when Mr Deem, Director of the Fields’ Division of the Department of Agriculture, was presert. Mr Deem outlined his ideas, and those of his department, regarding the future running and control of the clubs. These need not be enlarged on here, except to remark that, if carried out, tho movement will be on a very sound footing. A further meeting to consolidate all will be held, after which I shall report fully to -vour board, lho meeting of the Hunterville branch will be held on the 21st instant, and this meeting I shall attend^
