BAPTIST CHURCH.

Tho social hall at the Baptist Church was well filled last night. The occasion was the visit of the president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, Mr S. Barry, of Auckland, who lectured on the work of the Baptist denomination of this country. The lecture was well illustrated by some 150 slides, depicting church, manse and other property in the different towns. Photographs of the various ministers were also seen and numerous details were given of tho progress made from the inception of the different churches. Several pictures of the pioneer workers were also shown, attention being drawn to the sacrificial efforts of the early workers. Altogether, tho .lecture was educational and inspirational. The gathering showed this in no uncertain way at the close when a hearty vote of thanks, moved by the Church secretary, Mr Whitehead, was carried with acclamation. The Pastor of the Church, Rev. C. S. Matthews, operated the lantern. The offering of eight pounds fifteen shillings is to be spent in supplying a new gas copper for tho kitchen at the local church.
