PERSONAL. (From Our Own Correspondent). , MAR'L'ON, Sept. 20. Mr T. C. Kincaid, of Taihape, has returned from a visit to Chrustcliurch. Miss Nathan, of Taihapo, is a visitor to Wanganui. Mr W. H. Fookes, of Taihape, has returned from New Plymouth. Mr A. J. Mclnnes, of tho Taihapo lailway staff, has boon transferred to Otorohanga. Mr D. D. Simpson, of Huntervillo, took his seat at tho Wanganui Hospital Board tablo for tho first time on Wednesday as a representative of Rangitikei County. Air Simpson is tho third generation of tho Simpson family to givo service on tho board and ho was given a very cordial welcome. Aliss F. AI. Taylor, assistant teacher at- Ohingaiti, has resigned. Airs F. Bonner has returned to Mangaweka from Napier. Air S. J. Gibbons, of Alarton, has been seriously ill for several days. Airs A. Gracie, of Alarton, who recently underwent an operation in a Wanganui hospital, is progressing favourably. GENERAL. . At the weekly meeting of Taihapo Rugby Union it was stated that tho profit for tho season would bo £43 10s, as against a loss last year of £l2. Tho final meeting of tho season takes nlaco on' Alonday next. Tho Rugby match between Rangitikei and Taranaki B at Marton on Wednesday was a mud-scramblo and good football was out of the question, though tho visiting backs handled with cominondablo accuracy considering tho conditions under which they played. A thunderstorm, accompanied by a deluge of rain, spoiled what would have been quite a good ground. Tho visitors were not fully extended at any stage of the game and won by 17 points to 3. Rov. P. H. The Wanganui Hospital Board on Wednesday decided to purchase a now motor car for the use of the Alarton district nurse, tho cost of putting tho present vehicle in order being such that it would bo uneconomical to go further with it. Green have donated trophies for competition.

The Alarton Ladies’ Golf Club held a competition in aid of tho sports queen, the winners being Aliss. Howard 93-20-73 (Mrs Anderson's trophy) and Airs Gaisford (Airs Beckett’s trophy). The annual meeting of Taihapo Bowling Club was held on Wednesday, Air H. O’Callaghan presiding. The report dealt at length with inter-club and club competitions, and mentioned that tho bank overdraft had been substantially reduced. Tho balance-shcot showed a profit of £26 on the year’s working. To a Alarton farmer, Mr A. S. A complaint regarding tho quality of the electricity supply in tho Huntervillo district was voiced at yesterday’s meeting of tho Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board by Mr R. G. Dalziell. The resident engineer stated that tho work of increasing the power in that area was being pushed on and Huntervillo would get relief from tho new sub-station at Bonny Glen. During a storm at Alarton on Wednesday afternoon, lightning struck a tree in the vicinity of Mr T. Wing’s residenco on Wing’s Line, tho branches being broken off and tearing up the ground for some distance around. In addition, all tho windows on one side of Air Wing’s houso were broken. FLOWER SHOW. Tho 27th annual show of spring flowers under the auspices of St. Stephen’s Church Guild, Alarton, was opened in tho Town Hall yesterday and attracted considerable patronage. There was a beautiful display of blooms which attracted admiration on all sides. Tho judges wero Air Frank Mason (Feilding), Air C. H. E. Rhodes (Wanganui), and Miss Abraham (Palmerston North).
