The German steamer Hcchst, bound from Colombo to Europe, is aground off Minicoy Island and is reported to be badly disabled. The tug Hercules has gone to attempt to refloat the merchantman. Minicoy Island is ever 400 miles from Colombo and is a storm-swept spdt in the path of the approaching north-east monsoon.

A wireless mgasage states that the Hercules is expected to reach the disabled Hochst at ten o’clock to-morrow morning. A message from the Hochst states that the forepeak is flooded and the lower holds, Nos. 1 and 2, partly flooded. The vessel is gradually getting out of control owing to the heavy seas. The crew have been compelled to throw the cargo overboard. Another. German steamer is expected to reach Minicoy Island and will stand by until the arrival of the Hercules. It is thought that the vessel grounded when passing through a narrow channel between two reel's in heavy seas and a thick mist.
