THE APPEAL OF BOOKS.

MORE READERS AT DUNEDIN. • LIBRARY STAFF KEPT BUSY. DUNEDIN, Sept. 21. There has been a pronounced increase of book readers at Dunedin recently. The chief librarian, Mr W. B. McEwan, stated that the indications pointed to the attendance figures at the Public Library being well ahead of those for last year. The lending department had been very busy all the winter, as had the reference department, which had had a very heavy winter season. An interesting fact was that a large number of teachers and ex-students during the holidays availed themselves of the opportunity of refreshing their minds in the reference department. “There is never any falling off in the attendances _ in the reading rooms,” said the librarian. “UnemSloyment made us busier than ever uring the winter.”
