EARLY MORNING BLAZE.
BOARDINGHOUSE DESTROYED
INMATES’ NARROW ESCAPE.

At 4-20 a.m. a well-known landmark, the Devonshire Boardinghouse, a twostoreyed building of 17 rooms,, was totally destroyed by fire. The building was owned by Mr A E. Jull, of W pawa, and leased by Mrs A. B. Meinung. , . ... ■, , Seven boarders escaped in their night attire and all were heavy losers. THe fire appears to have started m he kitchen, but the cause is-not known. The building was 24 years old and was formerly known as tire Tavistock Hotel. - ~ . Mrs Meinung had her furniture and effects insured for £270. The insurance on the building is not known. Fireman Arthur Green had his hand cut by falling iron, several stitches being necessary. . One boarder was badly singed and all had a narrow escape.
