(From. Our Own Correspondent). k OTAKI, Sept. 25. A shock of earthquake was experienced in Otaki and district at 2.14 yesterday morning. A beautiful tombstone at the Otaki cemetery was recently deliberately broken. The matter has been placed in the hands of the P °The social at the Parish Hall on Monday evening was, as usual, well attended, and all spent an enjoyable time. The ladies’ prize was won by Mrs Rewi Wallace and the men’s by Mr Ahern. The consolation prizes were won by Mrs Evans and Mr Higgott. . „ . , The Raukawa and Karori Hockey Clubs will play at Otaki on Saturday next. The Wellington ladies who visited Otaki on Saturday are anxious for a return game and if suitable arrangements can bo mado for a ground the match will probably be played. . , , , Mr H. Witchell is at present on holiday in Otaki. . , The death occurred at Porirua yesterday of Ronald Webby, son of Mr Edward Webby, aged 21 years. The death occurred at Levin yesterday of Mrs Wildsmith, who for some eleven years resided in this district. Eight years ago Mr and Mrs Wildsmith left for Levin, where Mr Wildsmith passed away, while a daughter died in 1916. For the past 18 months the deceased had been in poor health. A son, Charles, is left to mourn his loss. The Otaki Bowling Club will open the season on Saturday next at 2 p.m. A “working bee” was in evidence at the green yesterday, when both greens were thoroughly rolled and other work done.
