FOXTON.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. (From Our Own Correspondent). FOXTOX, Sept. 26. A special general meeting of tho Horticultural Society was held in All Saints’ schoolroom on” Monday evening presided over by Mr W. S. Heyes (president). There was a large attendance as the meeting was to discuss important matters relative to tho future welfare of the society. The president explained the object of the meeting and called for any suggestions for the improvement of future shows. Rev. Mr Walton suggested ■ that the society should take steps to fittingly celebrate its 21st anniversary at the coming summer show and that the Governor-Gen-erla should bo asked to open the exhibition. In the event of the Governor-General not being ablo to attend, Mrs Woods suggested that the Prime Minister be asked to preside at tho opening. The names of Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and Hon. T. M. Wilford were also mentioned. It was decided to hold a baby show at tho summer exhibition for babies 12 months and under and six months and under respectively. Mrs Moore moved that the GovernorGeneral be given the option of being present on November 19 or 21, and that failing him being ablo to open the show the date be definitely fixed for tho 21st.—This was carried.

It was also decided to arrange a concert programme for tho evening session of the show and a committee was set up to make arrangements accordingly. To further mark the anniversary of the society it was decided to obtain a trophy to be competed for for all time and to be awarded each year to the competitor gaining the most points over tho whole show, the competition to be open to all. It was agreed that the trophy be handed to the secretary fourteen days prior to any show. A subcommittee was set up to collect money for the purchaso of the trophy.
