MEMBER FOR MATAURA.
AGAIN IN THE LIMELIGHT. OBJECTS TO EXENSION OF TIME. (Bv Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. . The member for Mataura, who is back in the House of Representatives after a brief illness, was again in the limelight to-night. 1 When an extension of time was moved in order to enable Mr D. Jones (Mid-Canterbury) to finish his speech, Mr McDougall was quickly on bis feet and shouted a decisive “No!” Attempts were made to get the member for Mataura to agree to the extension of time, but the bon. gentleman again settled the matter with an emphatic “No!” The next speaker was Hon. E. A. Ransom, and, when his time was up, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates rose and moved that Mr Ransom be granted an extension of time. But the member tor Mataura was as determined as before and Mr Ransom reluctantly resumed his seat. , Mr Coates endeavoured to persuade Mr McDougall, but his efforts were of no avail, and Mr Ransom bad to bring his remarks to a close. Mr Kyle, during his speech, said that it was a wrong thing to have a golitical clown in the party, but .Mr peaker made the member for ±uccarton withdraw those words. _ There was yet another incident when Sir Joseph Ward interrupted the debate in order to move for “urgency. Mr Speaker said he could not do so and tho debate proceeded till the adjournment at 10.30 when the House rose.
