LATE MR P. J. SMALL.

FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON.. The funeral took place this afternoon of the late Mr P. J.. Small, and the large cortege which followed to the place of interment at the Palmerston North cemetery was an outstanding tribute to the deceased gentleman’s fine personality. The final. respects to one of the Manawatu district’s leading settlers were paid by very many friends, while public and local bodies were strongly represented. The pall-bearers were Messrs M. Burmeister, W. Rodden, A. H. Honeyfield, K. Eglinton, P. Eglinton and W. Devine.

This morning Requiem Mass was held in St. Patrick’s Church, and prior to the funeral this afternoon wi impressive . service was conducted. By Very Rev. Monsignor MaoManus. The casket was surrounded by a remarkable profusion of floral, emblems, and the beautiful wreaths were a striking testimony to the high regard in which the late Mr Small was, held. There were many floral tributes from friends in the Kairangd and adjacent districts. Among the numerous wreaths received were those from the directors of the National Dairy Association of New Zealand, the Wellington-Hawke’s Bay butter companies’ organisation, Mana-watu-Oroua Power Board, Manawatu Drainago Board, executive of the Dairy Farmers’ Union. Mangawhata 1 Dairy Company, Rural Intermediate Credits Board, staff of the Kairanga Dairy Company, executive of the Wellington District Dairy Factories’ Association, directors of. the Awahuri Dairy Company, suppliers of- the Kairanga Dairy Company’s Fitzherbert factory, suppliers of the Kairanga factory! directors of .the Kairanga Dairy Company, chairman, councillors and office staff of the Kairanga County Counoil, Levin branch of the United' Party, and Messrs Picot Bros.
