PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Jan. 26. Mr and Mrs E. L. Darley, of Reipuera(Auckland) are visiting Pahiatua. Mr and Mrs H. McQuilkin, of Mangatnaire, have returned from a month’s motoring tour of the North Island. Mr E. P. Badger, who' has been on an extended "motoring tour duirng the past few weeks in various parts of the North Island, returned home Last evening. • The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Distriot High School Committee was held last evening. 'There were.present: Messrs G. G. Taylor (chairman), Brown, Lister, Dickie and Matthews. The chairman reported that he had communicated with the country , schools regading their subscriptions towards the dental clinic but so, far-only one school'had paid. Mr Taylor said;that a numb® of windows needed repairing at the school. The lawns . had been mown by senior ..boys, Various accounts totalling £8 8s 8d were passed for payment, this sum inoluding the telephone fees. The credit balance at the' Bank at the end of December was £sl 13s sd.
. The weather was find but the air quite chilly last night , for the first swimming carnival of the season. Masterton was strongly represented, and Feilding too, but only a sprinkling came from Palmerston North, while Woodville and Dannevirke were not fepresented' this year. The visitors were entertained to supper and dancing afterwards in St. Peter’s Sunday Schoolroom where there was a very large attendance. \ ,
