HOROWHENUA SHOW
CHAMPIONSHIPS AWARDED.
LARGE NUMBER OF ENTRIES'. The 26th annual show of tho'Horowhenua A. and _P. Association, which was held at Levin yesterday, attracted a large number of entries and good patronage by the general public. The weather was fine till late m the afternoon when some showers fell.
The following is a list of tho championship and reserve championship awards:—
CATTLE. Dairy Cow.—E. L. Speirs (Levin). Jerseys: Bull, J. A. Mitchell's (Longburn) Brampton Coy Volunteer (imp.); reserve, R. L. Horn and Son’s (Ohau) Ku Ku Owl’s Victor; cow, R. L.- Horn and Son’s Braeside Dawn; reserve, H. J. Lancaster’s (Levin) Heatherlea Madge. Brown’s Waim'ea Domingo. Red Polls: Bull, H. G. Bryant’s (Manakau) Otahuna Candidate; reserve, J. Davies’s, (Ohau), Dominion 'Waterloo; cow, H. G. Bryant’s Pearl; reserve, same exhibitor’s Sedgmoor Girl.
SHEEP; Soutlidown: Ram R. Bevan’s (Manakau) ; reserve, Mrs B. H. Slack’s (Manakau) ; ewe, Mrs H. Slack’s; reserve, J. H. Slack’s (Manakau). Romney Marsh: Ram, J. H. Mungavin’s (Ohau); ewe, J. H. Mungavin’s.’ PIGS. Berkshires: Sow, J. Morgan’s ( Weraroa) Weraroa Royalty. Tamworths: Boar, N. J. Sorraghan’s (Levin) Dennis; sow, Cheltenham Dairy Company’s (Makino), Awakino Ruby Ist. Large Whites: Boar, E. P. Neilsen’s (Tiakitahuna) Lakeview Bob; sow, R. Webb’s (Newbury) Tamaki Canadian Renown. Large Black: Boar, J. Morgan’s Lucerndale Bendigo; sow, E, P. Noiken’s Wattle Lily.
GENERAL AWARDS. In tho dairy cattle classes (judge, Mr H. J. Lancaster, Glen Oroua), the chief prizewinners were: E. L. Spiers (Levin), two firsts and five seconds; and A. S. Horn (Ohau), four firsts and three seconds. In the Jersey class (judgo, Mr T. Ranford. Whakaronpo), J. A. Mitchell (Longbum) was prominent,: taking one first and two seconds in addition to the championship for bull; R, L. Horn and Sons (Ohau) took nine firsts and five seconds; H. J. Lancaster (Levin), one first and one second; and B.'R. Robinson (Manakau) one first. •
Atkins Bros (Manakau) Bcored well in the Ayrshire class, judgqd by Mr T. H. Colpman (Waikanae), taking eight firsts and three seconds; Webb Bros (Koputaroa) being awarded two first and six seconds. In tho Friesian class, judged by Mr A. Burgess (Rongotea), W. A. Kyle (Palmerston North) took two firsts and one second, the principal honours going to 0. A. Cadwallader (Greytown). R. V. Brown (Weraroa) had a notable run of successes in the Milking Shorthorn group, judged by Mr W. E. Barbor (Foxton), taking five firsts and three seconds ; W. Fyffe (Weraroa) obtained one first and two seconds; and W. J. Slack (Manakau) three Crete and two seconds. The Red Polls were judged by Mr L. J. Wild (Feilding) and. the principal prizewinner was H. G. Bryant (Manakau), who took four firsts and three seconds fJ. Davies (Ohau) being awarded three firsts and two seconds. The principal exhibitor in the fast sheen classes, judged by Mr T. B. Cornford (Pahiatua), was Mr F. Davies, Levin, .who repeated his performances of previous years add annexed nearly all of the major awards. Dr. Horn (Manakau) and E. M. and N. W. Ryder (Levin) euch secured one first award. In the fat lamb classes the successful exhibitors were F. Davies, two firsts and one second; E. M. and N. W. Ryder, one first; and Kilsby Bros (Koputaroa), one second, F. Davies won, both the first and second awards in tho two' gift and the farmers’ classes. In the purebred Southdown class, judged' by Mr E. Burrell (Feilding), R. Bevan (Manakau) was awarded five firsts and one second; Mrs B. H. Slack (Manakau), two firsts and four seconds; J. H. Slack, four firsts and one second. J. Mungavin (Ohau) took the principal awards in the Romney Marsh class, judged by Mr Comfort!. Mr J. McLindeh, of Massey College, judged the pigs. In the Berkshires J. Morgan (Weraroa) swept the board of prizes. In the Tamworth the Cheltenham Dairy Coy. took six firsts and three seconds, and ,C. &. Hunt (Glen Oroua) two firsts. For Large Whites, R. Webb (Newbury) took twb firsts, E. P. Neilsen (Tiakitahuna) three firsts and two seconds, and G. M. Whitlock (Newbury) one seoond. In the Large Blacks J. Morgan took two firsts, G. M. Whitlock two firsts and three seconds, and E. P. Neilsen three first and three seconds. For crossbred pigs R. Webb was awarded one first and one second, and A. Davidson (Rongotea), one first. In tho ring competitions, Doris Young (Kairanga) was awarded two firsts, Archie Hobbs (Oroua Downs) one second, Grace Young (Oroua Downs) one first, J., Shaw (Palmerston North) one first, J. J. Waller (Awapuni) oha second, J. Cameron (Oroua Downs) one first.
