Emphasising the' advantage - that foreign timbers have hitherto enjoyed through their suitability, cheapness, care in preparation, grading, condi* tion and research, Mr J. R. Cosgrove, of the Government forest research laboratory, lecturing to the Royal Society of Arts, remarked that the initiative of public bodies backed by the Empire Marketing Board’s efforts, had led to an increasing ' use of; Empire timbers. The producers were also devoting more attention to British needs. '
Mr Cosgrove paid a special tribute to beautiful Australian timbers suitable for veneering and others for furniture. joinery and flooring; also to' New Zealand woods, notably kauri, for flooring. . ''u
