APITr, Jan. 26. A team of tennis players from St. John’s Club, Feilding, visited Apiti on Anniversary Day, and played a friendly match against the local club. The weather was ideal for .outdoor sport, and the Apiti lady members provided lunch and aftomoon tea at the courts for the players. The local team proved the winners, defeating the-visitors by 19 sets (146 games) to 5 sets (92 gamos). After the day’s sport was over, sevoral members of the local club further entertained the visitors to tea at their homes, and in the evening a jolly dance was hold in the public hall. There was an exceptionally largo crowd _ of dancers present from all over the district. The music was supplied by Mr Feeney, of Fcilding, extras boing played by Misses Cummerfield, Bunborry and’ Signal, Messrs T. and C. Osborne and R. Viles acted as M.C.’s. Miss Foster, on behalf of the St. John’s Club, _ thanked the Apiti Club for their hospitality. Mr C. Osborno, president of the local club, suitably replied. The. weather for the past few weeks has boon hot and dry, enabling the farmers to get on with haymaking and all dry weather farm operations. Gardeners, however, find the weather too dry, and there seems a scarcity of'the early stone fruit. Mrs Jenkins, of Norsewood, and Mr C. Kilgour wero the guests of Mrs W. Viles during thoir short visit hero, to attend thoir brother’s wedding, which took place at Rangiwahia last Tuesday. . Mrs G. Duncan, who had- the misfortune to injuro her foot some weeks back, can get about without the use of crutches now. Mr and Mrs F. A. Stewart are at present on holiday in Otaki. Miss M. Caldwell, of Otaki, is the guest of Mrs Edwin Millar. Mrs A. McNae, who spent a holiday hero, tho guest of Mrs W. McKay, returned to Halcombe • yesterday. Miss Lucas, of Rewa, and Miss Haswell, of Wellington, have been the guests of Mrs W.. Viles. Miss Leo, of Levin, spent the holidays with Miss Leslie. Miss Leslie is recovering slowly from her recent indisposition. Mrs G. Roberts, of Te Kuiti, spent last week with Mrs S. Roberts, Piri Pin. Mr and Mrs Viles, accompanied by their daughter, who have been here on holiday, are motoring through to To Kuiti on Wednesday. Mr, npd Mrs Barker of Waipukurau, are -the guests of Mrs John Jensen.
