PAHIATUA.

PAHIATUA, Jan. 29. Mrs H. Cox, of Gladstone Street, who is one of the pioneers of the district, celebrated his 87th birthday this week. The wedding of Ella May. eldest daughter of Mr and the late Mrs W. Shannon, to Mr C. Goss, of Nireaha, was solemnised at the bride’s home. Rev. J. Benny officiated. The Mbthodist Sunday School pupils held their annual picnio jn Carnival Park on Wednesday. The day was beautiful and tho natural surroundings all to -be desired. Races proved an important part of the day’s proceedings. Tug-of-war, boys versus girls, caused much laughter. The girls proved thd winners. The winners of the races .were as follow: Girls, under 6 years: Ida Pearcey, Jean Pearoy, Isabel Gunn. Boys, under 6 years: Ken Glassey, Peter Gunn, Ray Butcher. Girls, 6 to 9 years: Molva Parker, Kathleen Clark, Peggy Gunn. Boys, 6 to 9 years: rum McQueen, Evan Welsh, Doug. Glassey. Girls, 9 to 12 years: Pat Darley, Harel Pearcey, Isabel Barraclough. Boys, 9 to 12 years: John Lavin, Doug. Gunn, Morris Glassey. Boys’ • sack raoe: Ken Welsh, John Lavin. Girls’ threelegged race: M. Pearcey and C. Tapp, P, rnillips and M. Parker, A very pleasant surprise took place when -Mr A. Sowry, of Mangamaire, to celebrate hi» 71st birthday, fave all the children lollies. Rev.
