(From Our Own, Correspondent). FOSITON, Jan. 28. Mr H. Fiford, of Whittaker Street, is at present an inmate of • the Palmerston North Hospital. Mr W. Wallbutton who recently entered the Palmerston North Hospital suffering- from an injury to his hand, has been discharged. FOXTON, Jan. 29. Mrs Gudgeon,. of Urenui, Taranaki, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs A. R. Osborne, Foxton. Mr B. Chrystall, who is a student of tho Methodist Theological College, Auckland, is spending a holiday with his parents, Mr and Mrs J. Chrystall, of Lady's Mile. Miss ■F. Spring, of Foxton, has been appointed a relieving teacher at tho local District High School. Mr and Mrs R. A. Robbie, of Whyte Street, have returned to Foxton from a motor camping trip spent in the Auckland province. Mrs Robbins, Palmerston North, is spending a holiday at Manawatu Heads. Mrs C. Gore, of Fcilding, is on holiday at Manawatu Heads. ' f At tho request of the. Mayor (Mr M. E. Perroau) a special mooting of tho Chamber of Commerce was hold last evening in connection with tho proposed company to manufacture wool bodes, bags, etc; from New Zealand fibre. The attendance was fully representative of tho town. Mr J. IC. HornSlow presided and briefly skotchcd the history of tho proposal up to tho present time. The Mayor explained that tho promoters had recently visited Foxton and there conferred with himself, the Town Clerk and Mr Hornblow. It was suggested at that meeting that a conference of local bodies interested in tho project and representative of tho various towns in the Manawatu be held early in February. It was with a snow to furthering this suggestion that ho had asked for a special - meeting of tho chamber and he was pleased to see such a largo attendance. Ho detailed the steps already taken by the promoters and intimated that it wa3 their intention to erect three factories, ono to bo located in tho Manawatu, ono in Auckland and one in Southland. The factory, in tho l\| anawa tu, in common with the others, would comprise 24 looms, but this would bo' tho first factory to bo erected. Under tho circumstances it was tho duty of the local chamber and all other chambers and local bodies interested in the district to . lend all support to the project and after that the local chamber could use its every endeavour to ensure that the location of the factory be Foxton. Mr W. Trueman (Town Clerk) submitted a sample of tho article being manufactured in the experimental factory in Dunedin at present, which was favourably commented upon. Tho president commented on tho Mayor’s generous donation of a most suitable site to the promoters and urged members to give him every support possible in furthering tho project. A round tablo discussion ensued at the conclusion of which it was resolved that tho chamber do its utmost to assist in making a success of the venture. A further resolution was carried to the effect that tho secretary communicate with teh Palmorston North, Foiling, Shannon, and Levin chambers ?with a view to holding a conference of all interested in Palmerston North. Despite boisterous weather there was a good and enthusiastic crowd at the Municipal Baths last evening on the occasion of tho Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club’s carnival. Entries were good in practically every race and some good swimming was witnessed. The chief results -wore: Men’s 25 yards handicap:—First heat: E. ’ Stevenson (scr.) 1, J.
