YOUNG MEN’S ESCAPADE.

TERM OF PROBATION.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 30. “You have had your lesson and you have had your chance; take care that you do not abuse the opportunity that you now haye of making good, 1 ’ said the Chief Justice, Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers, to two young men whom he placed on probation for Tour years when they appeared before him for sentence in the Supreme Court yesterday. The prisoners were Dudley Holdsworth Smith and Jack Qary, who had pleaded guilty to two charges of breaking and entering and theft. Counsel for the prisoners said that Carr was just 21 years of age and Smith just 20.' The offence arose out of acts which had been committed on a single day. It appeared that the two had become involved in the 21st birthday party of a friend. Both had consumed a certain amount of liquor and had taken a motor-cycle to Karori, where they took a motor-car. They went to Paekakariki, where they consumed more liquor, and while going through Levin they broke open a jeweller’s window and took nine wristlet watches of small value. Later, at Shannon, they broke into a tobacconist’s shop and took some cigarettes.
