RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
LENGTHY TRAINS CONTINUE. ■The heavy traffic ’which commenced on the! railway on Saturday morning continued in the evening and was equally as heavy to-day when lengthy trains were running. l The Wellington-Auckland express, which passed through at five o’clock on Saturday night, comprised 16 vehicles and was drawn by two engines.- This train, which was packed to capacity, had three locomotives attached to it when it, left Wellington,' one of the engines being detached at Paekakariki after the difficult gradients had been climbed. When it arrived at'Palmerston North, the train occupied the full length of the platform, from the south to the north docks.
The Limited express this morning was filled while the second express comprised 16 Vehicles and required two engines. Many- of the passengers detrained at Palmerston North,_ however, and a reduction was made ire the complement. Each of the expresses was on time when it passed-through. The express'to Napier comprised twelve vehicles which were well filled while the down express had ten crowd-; ! ed vehicles. The express tp New Plymouth was also well patronised and consisted of 10 vehicles. • Despite the large numbers being carried each of the trains ran to schedule time.
